Need help for geography reflection paper
Maps are a way
that we can interpret urban experiences. Maps have been traditionally used to
bound space, to graph the earth and create boundaries between cities, states,
nations, etc.. As we will see in this class, red lining maps were used to
assign which racial groups could live in a particular area. Maps can therefore
be tools for the reproduction of social wealth and hierarchies. However, they
can also be used to tell alternative stories of urban experiences and can be
mobilized for social justice purposes. In this assignment I ask you to explore one
of these maps and write about how it exposes key themes in the class. Tell me
about the maps and how you experienced them. Also detail the kinds of
alternative pasts and futures that the maps expose.
